Those of you who made it last year might remember Syed Balkhi who presented some great sessions at WordCamp Fayetteville 2010.

His company has compiled a fantastic overview, in graphical form, of what a WordCamp is and what to expect.

Take a look.

Just got our budget approved by the WordPress Foundation

Regulations on WordCamps are tighter this year.

Not a bad thing. It means greater support and involvement by the WordPress Foundation in exchange for conforming to the standards being adopted by all the camps.

One of the conditions of being listed among the official WordCamps from this point forward is approval of the budget.

Essentially, the nonprofit WordPress Foundation wants to make sure no one is profiting from the event and the ethos of a low cost, Do-It-Yourself conference is preserved.

We’ve been doing that all along so no worries for WordCamp Fayetteville.

In fact the WordPress Foundation’s Jane Wells just approved our 2011 budget.

We love you, Blue Zoo Creative! | Meet the Sponsors

Have you seen our amazing logo?

Take a moment. It’s there in the top right part of the screen. Pretty awesome, huh?

Well it was designed by Eric Huber of Blue Zoo Creative, one of our tremendously generous sponsors with WordCamp Fayetteville 2011.

They’ve been there since the beginning (aka last year) and continue to help us keep these ticket prices low for you.

Not only have they donated time and endless effort, but they’ve also given us the seed money to start our WordCamp Fayetteville bank account.

Owners Eric and Collin Condray rock the party. Check them out on their homepage or their creative outpost on Facebook.

Thank you for being Author Sponsors at WordCamp Fayetteville.

Press release announcing tickets are on sale now

Feel free to grab this and pass it around to your heart’s content.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Tickets go on sale for WordCamp Fayetteville 2011

Tickets for the second annual WordCamp Fayetteville event went on sale today. They are available for $30 at http://onlinesignup.org/wordcampfayetteville.

WordCamp Fayetteville is a tech conference scheduled for July 30, 2011 at the Donald W. Reynolds Center for Enterprise Development on the University of Arkansas campus.

Up to 300 people will spend the day learning about the free, open-source software called WordPress and how to better communicate and do business online.

“Nonprofits, educators, small businesses, online news sites … all of them are using WordPress because of its accessibility and free price tag,” said event organizer Christopher Spencer, publisher of Ozarks Unbound.

“We had 100 people last year from five states. There’s really a demand for skills among those who want to communicate better online. ‘Blog Brighter’ – that’s WordCamp Fayetteville’s mission.”

The blitz begins April 4

Big thanks to Eric Huber of Blue Zoo Websites for the awesome logo refresh for 2011.

Also, Brian Colinger of Automatic set us up on a multi-site so 2010 is archived away as we push forward with our 2011 design. Very groovy.

Things are churning here at WC Fay HQ. We plan to have our ticketing system up around April Fools Day, thanks to local company onlinesignup.org run by The Belford Group out of Fayetteville.

Also our call for speakers opens up April 1. We’re going to have everyone submit a form this year just to make sure everyone goes through the same filter and we can gather all the information we need on the front end.

We plan to run three tracks this year – Blogger (Write it!), Business (Sell it!) and Developer (Make it). We will also focus on web fluency skills, basic design and internet stuff, so certain classes will be flagged specifically for that within the three track system.

It’s a much bigger venue this year, so we are really hoping to step up every aspect from last year.

One thing that won’t be growing is the price – $30 buys you access to everything: the conference speakers, free lunch, swag bag, giveaways, an after party Saturday night and Sunday’s Guru Gallery.

If you are interested in receiving regular updates about the event, feel free to email me at christopher (at) ozarksunbound (dot) com.

It’s on! The Reynolds Center is rented for July 30

After much discussion back and forth, WordCamp Fayetteville 2011 will be July 30 at the Donald W. Reynolds Center for Enterprise Development.

Here are some more details.

It’s located right on the University of Arkansas campus next to Harmon Parking Deck which is free on Saturdays. The place holds up to 300 folks in the auditorium with room for more if we have to.

The rental fee is $2,000 and with $1,000 from our city’s Advertising and Promotions Commission we are already halfway there.

We can run at least three tracks during the day with a keynote lunch time and end of the day gathering point.

I hope you are excited as I am. More to come soon.
